Narrated by Keramos, the Greek god of pottery, this self-guided audio tour explores Athens’ traditional crafts scene — from handmade sandals, ceramics and musical instruments to hats, jewellery and weaving. You’ll step inside workshops where craftspeople share their personal stories — some continuing third-generation family traditions, others starting fresh — on a 6.2 km route that reveals hidden corners of downtown Athens and neighbourhoods you might never discover on your own. Along the way, we point out architectural and cultural gems that also bring the city’s past to life. It’s a glimpse of old Athens, as alive and inspiring as it was in the 19th century.
Route
Hadrian's Arch

Hadrian’s Arch is a triumphal gateway by the Temple of Olympian Zeus, built to honour the Roman Emperor Hadrian for his numerous works in Athens in the 2nd century AD. You will find it on Vasilissis Amalias Avenue in the city centre.
Melissinos Art

You’re in Plaka, outside the workshop of Pantelis Melissinos, a third-generation sandal-maker whose grandfather started the business in 1920 and whose father was so popular in the 1950s that Sophia Loren was one of his customers.
Greek Picks

This little gem, with its pistachio-green storefront and antique wooden door, hides all the goodness of the Greek land. Greek Picks is a delicatessen where you will find high-quality products from small producers all over the country.
Ifenin Weaving Workshop

You are at the Ifenin workshop of Mrs Chrysa, below the Acropolis, and from the looms you can see through the windows, you’ll know that you’re here to learn about weaving.
