Route
1. Annunziata Church Bell Tower
We start at the Annunziata Church Bell Tower, at the corner of Evaggelistrias and Evgeniou Voulgareos streets, in the Old Town. But don’t expect to see the church that the bell tower once belonged to. It was destroyed by German bombers in World War Two in one of Corfu’s many historical twists.
2. The Dairy Shop of Periklis Alexis
This tiny square is Vrachlioti Square but Corfiots know it simply as Pinia. The well in the middle was a source of water in the Venetian times, and you can see that it’s still a commercial hub from the shops around it. One of these is our first hidden gem – the dairy shop of Periklis Alexis, operating here since the 1950s.
3. Voulismas Bakery
The Voulisma patisserie was founded in 1936 and is one of the most traditional confectionery stores in the city.
4. Old Town Hall (San Giacomo Theatre)
The most formal part of Venetian Corfu is found in Dimarchiou Square. The grand standalone building that dominates the square is the Old Town Hall, after which the square is named. But it has a much nobler past.
